2010-11 Adult SLAM! Rules

    TO COMPETE:
  • Sign up before 8:00 p.m.
  • Perform their own original works.
  • Not employ the use of any music, costumes or props.
  • Not exceed the time limit of 3 minutes, 10 seconds.
  • Not repeat any competition poems during slam season
  • Understand that judges are selected randomly from the audience.
  • Exhibit healthy sportspersonship at all times.

    TO MAKE THE TEAM:
  • All slam team members must be 18 years old by July 31, 2011
  • First, Second and Third place from each Slam! will advance to the Finals
  • At the Finals, 10 poets will compete in a three-round elimination slam
  • Top 5 will comprise Milwaukee's 2011 National Slam Team
  • All finalists must sign a Team Contract prior to Finals, indicating their
    understanding of team expectations, protocol, obligations and schedules

    SLAM SCHEDULE
    November 18
    December 16
    GRAND SLAM FINALS: January 13

    PRELIM BOUTS WILL LOOK LIKE THIS:
  • Two rounds (however, poets should have three pieces, in case of a tie).
  • Order of first round determined by random draw.  Order of second round, simply
    the reverse order.
  • Cumulative scores determine top performers.  First, second and third places
    advance to finals.


    FINALS WILL LOOK LIKE THIS:
  • Three rounds (however, poets should have four pieces, in case of a tie).
  • Top 10 scores will advance to second round.
  • Top 6 scores will advance to third round.
  • Order of first round determined by random draw.  Order of second round, simply
    the reverse order.  Third round, ordered randomly.
